EASILY THE BEST STAGE PRODUCTION TO GRACE OUR CITY. THE STORY IS RAD AND
THE MUSIC IS RAW. DEATHBONE IS A STALLION.

One of the best plays I've seen at the Fringe in the past 4 years. Funny,
well acted and great songs. It was a breath of fresh air when compared to
some other serious shows. Not that those aren't good but it was nice to
laugh so much for one whole hour. As for the homophobic and sexist jokes,
I didn't take them seriously at all. The whole story is from a 13 year old's
point of view. A 13 year old who's a looser and a nerd. That's why the show
is so endearing really, because Martini reveals himself and we can all see
a little something of the kids we once were in his performance and story.

Excellent! This group has something going here. The energy was go, go, go
from the start. The performances were all relaxed, fun, and innovative and
although a lot of that has to with with the acting (especially the actor
playing the young kid) I think it evolves from the writing which was solid.
All that thrown in with some funny and actually catchy rock songs and the
result is 60 minutes of theatre not to be missed.

This play rocked. The music was awesome, the comedy was on point, the acting
was... meh... but who cares about acting... I mean really? You could tell
that while the music was sexist, and that some of it could come across as
homophobic, that it was from the point of view of a 14 year old boy and
all of it really happened. I was 14 once, and I remember people making gay
jokes about me! It is also pretty endearing to hear a song about fucking
from the point of view of a 14 year old virgin. It gave me quite a chuckle.
I didn't get that the sexist or homophobic humor was from the grown up point
of view.

Hella lame. The guy who played the little French boy kept saying things
that were hella homophobic. I hella didn't like it. Plus 2 people got mad
in the middle and stormed out. I don't think Evil Live even respects women
that much. I hella wouldn't recomend seeing this play, the only thing good
was the hot guitar player Purge

I was so excited for this show - I heard there was a live band and they
sounded like some rock-n-roll rebels... and then the "star" of
the show stepped out on stage. I am all for someone living their dream and
that's clearly what Laurent Martini is attempting to do by bringing out
songs he wrote half his lifetime ago and rocking out with Live Evil - who,
admittedly, are pretty good! I would give this show 2 1/2 stars... because
the music is entertaining, if not a little sexist (goes with the territory,
I suppose, but still a bit hard for this feminist to swallow - pun intended),
but Laurent is quite possibly the least charismatic performer I've ever
seen. His band rocked - they were hilarious and obviously pretty talented
and he's not a bad singer, but the narrative of his life story was so completely
boring. Why bother? Just do a concert. But again, kudos to getting your
shit together enough to live a dream.

This play was hilarious. The guy's life story is too funny and his band
Live Evil's songs reminded me of both Motley Crue and The Darkness. Especially
the last song they played, got me pumped up, wanting to hear more. If you're
a fan of rock and comedy, this show is a winner.

This is one of my favorite Fringe shows of the past seven years - so smart,
so much energy, so much fun, and this ensemble was so tight. There's a lot
I loved about this show: Laurent Martini's wry stage presence as he narrates
his life story; the writing; the direction; the incredible band (not only
are they talented musicians who know how to blow the roof off of the house
- and do - they're hilarious and have a presence to equal Martini's); the
music and lyrics; the sketch comedy bits; and, above all, how they have
combined all of these elements to present a very solid, very entertaining
show. Impeccable!

the mentality of the play is influenced greatly by the themes of late-80's
heavy metal and makes no excuses for it, either. The band members really
help sell the songs and humor of the piece. bring ear plugs and prepare
to participate or be on the receiving end of a middle-finger or expletive. |
